Laser Gum disease treatments

Scaling and Root Planing
Dental plaque can accumulate on your teeth underneath the gumline. If left untreated, this plaque can cause the gums to disconnect from the teeth, leaving deep pockets in between them. We treat it through scaling and root planing, or gum infection therapy. With scaling we use the laser to eradicate the plaque. We then perform root planing—smoothing out the root enamel to prevent bacteria from building up in crevices and causing new infection. After these steps are completed your gums and teeth will be able to reconnect.
With a gingivectomy, we actually remove any diseased tissue that can’t be treated or that’s interfering with other aspects of your dental health or healing. Laser technology makes it possible to provide this treatment without scalpels or sutures. What’s more, the intense accuracy of the laser prevents us from harming any healthy tissue. We can also use the laser to remove excess gum tissue that’s causing you to have a “gummy smile,” a common cosmetic concern.
Periodontal Maintenance
While we can’t cure gum disease, we can help you manage it. Once you’ve undergone your laser gum disease treatment, we’ll arrange for you to come back to our office for ongoing periodontal maintenance—about three or four times per year. These appointments will give us the opportunity to do further scaling and root planing to eliminate any bacteria that may have formed since your prior treatment.
